A former Christoval High School football star was killed Tuesday
in what police described as a tragic hunting accident.
Justin David Lytle, 21, of Christoval, was sitting in the front
seat of a golf cart near Christoval Road in southern San Angelo,
according to police reports, when a flock of doves took flight from
the underbrush.
One of his hunting partners, Wayne Hayner, 24, of Mertzon,
sitting in the back seat of the cart, raised his shotgun and fired
just as Lytle stood up to also take aim at the birds. Lytle was
killed instantly.
"We're investigating the incident," said San Angelo police
spokesman Lt.
Curtis Milbourn, "though there's nothing that would make us believe
it was anything but an accident."
