Hunting accident in Jefferson County

10/9/06

A hunting accident injured one person Monday morning in the Jefferson County town of Lyme.

Police say 31-year-old Damon Piletz of Bergen, NY suffered an injury from a gunshot on the Kingsley property along the State Park Road. That's near Long Point State Park.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's department, Piletz shot at a turkey, and seconds later was hit by birdshot from another hunter in the area.

He was transported to Samaritan Medical Center with what are said to be minor injuries. Investigation into the incident is continuing, and Environmental Conservation Officers are reconstructing the scene.
