A father-son hunting trip by two men from New York ended in
tragedy when the son accidentally dropped his rifle and killed his
father Tuesday evening.
Joseph DiBiasa Jr., 66, of Ronkonkoma, NY, a small town in the
center of Long Island, died instantly from a single gunshot to the
chest, according to the Gunnison County sheriff's office. The
incident occurred near Fitzpatrick Mesa.
Witnesses said Joseph Michael DiBiasa, 41, the victim's son, was
carrying his 7mm magnum rifle on his shoulder when the sling broke.
Grabbing the weapon before it fell to the ground, the younger man
accidentally grabbed the trigger and fired the gun, hitting his
father.
An investigation will be conducted by the sheriff's office, which
said it will not be seeking charges against the younger man.
