CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has a
warning for deer hunters -- there's danger in the trees.
A recent rash of falls from tree stands killed one hunter and
paralyzed another.
Duane Alcott of Evansdale broke his back in his fall near Brandon
last month. Alcott, a bowhunter for 27 years, says his accident is a
textbook example of how not to hunt safely -- he wasn't wearing a
safety harness and he wasn't carrying a cell phone.
Alcott wasn't found until the next morning.
