According to Brooke County Sheriff Richard Ferguson, the two men
were preparing to go hunting near Wellsburg on Tuesday morning. As
the father was taking his gun out of their vehicle, the weapon
discharged accidentally. His son was hit in the leg and required
treatment at a hospital.
The two broke both a basic rule of gun safety and a state law:
Never travel with a loaded hunting rifle in a car. Ferguson said
that charges may be filed in the case, in an attempt to deter others
from breaking the law concerning gun safety and hunting.
