A 38-year-old Houston man was shot and killed in what appeared to
be a hunting accident Friday in Waller County.
The incident was one of two hunting-related shootings that
occurred in the suburban Houston area. In Liberty County, a
12-year-old boy was shot in both legs while squirrel hunting.
Waller County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Nichols said the man was duck
hunting with four other people when he was shot in the head about
8:35 a.m. near U.S. 90 between Brookshire and Katy. The Harris
County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Roy Folse.
Folse, who was struck by a 12-gauge shotgun blast, was taken by
Life Flight Helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died
shortly after 10 a.m., Nichols said.
Nichols said police are still trying to determine how the
shooting happened.
The incident will be referred to a grand jury without charges,
Nichols said.
In the second incident, Liberty County Sheriff's investigators
said deputies were sent to a location on County Road 6881 north of
Dayton at 10:43 a.m. to check a report of a shooting.
Deputies said Denton Hagan, 12, was shot in both legs while
hunting squirrels with two other boys. Police said one of the boys
accidentally shot Hagan, who was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital
for treatment of what was termed nonlife threatening wounds.
