The sheriff's office and wildlife authorities are investigating
what appears to be an accidental shooting during a hunting trip.
Dudley Ivan Gore, 63, was shot in the upper leg and torso
Saturday by his hunting partner ,William Henry Oakley, 60, according
to a sheriff's office report. The two men were turkey hunting
outside Madison when the shooting happened.
Gore, of 679 Bailey Road, heard a turkey and moved from his
position in an attempt to circle behind the bird, unbeknownst to
Oakley, of 1577 Martin Farm Road. Oakley shot the turkey, and some
of the birdshot from his 12-gauge shotgun struck Gore.
Both men were taken to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Oakley
complained of chest pains.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office say that "although the
incident appears to be accidental" a detective and N.C. Wildlife
officer are investigating.
Neither Gore nor Oakley's condition was immediately available.
