SMYRNA – Police have concluded an investigation into a hunting
accident that occurred earlier this month and have arrested a man for
accidentally shooting another hunter.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Randy L. Wilcox
Sr., 47, Smyrna, for 2nd degree reckless endangerment ( a class A
misdemeanor).
Police claim Wilcox recklessly created a substantial risk of
serious physical injury by reasons of neglect or incompetence.
Wilcox was out turkey hunting with two juveniles at around 6 a.m.,
May 25. Allegedly he fired his gun indiscreetly and shot a 17-year-old
male, not in his party, in the shoulder and face. The youth was taken
to the Chenango Memorial Hospital by family members and had pellets
removed from his face, head, shoulder and right arm. He was treated
and released soon after.
