NEENAH, Wis. (AP) - Authorities in Waushara County say an
18-year-old deer hunter from the Saxeville area died this morning
after apparently being shot by a member of his hunting party.
The fatality marks the first reported shooting mishap of the 9-day
gun deer season.
Authorities say David Ruck died at a Neenah hospital today.
Deputies responded to a report about 8:40 a.m. that a hunter had
been shot on private property in the Town of Saxeville in the
northwestern part of Waushara County.
The sheriff says Ruck was shot in the upper leg and inner groin.
The shooter told investigators he mistook Ruck for a deer.
The sheriff's department and state Department of Natural Resources
are investigating.
