The accidents happened in Calhoun and Preston Counties.

CHARLESTON -- The Division of Natural Resources is reporting two deaths on the opening day of the bucks only gun season.

According to a DNR spokesman, a Maryland resident fell about 25 feet from a tree stand, near Aurora in Preston County just before 9 a.m.

John Myers, 69 of Western Port, Md, was climbing down from the older wooden stand, after shooting a deer, when he fell.

The DNR says it's the third stand-related fatality in West Virginia this year.

In Calhoun County, an Ohio man died after suffering a heart attack.

Ferrill Hall, 68 of Orrville, Ohio shot a deer and had the heart attack while climbing over a hill to get to the deer.

In Brooke County, a 35-year-old man injured his ankle when he fell 15 feet out of a tree stand.
