EPHRATA, Wash. -- An off-duty Grant County sheriff's deputy was
shot in the back while hunting near Soap Lake.
He says he saw other hunters in the area Thursday and was leaving
when he heard a shot and felt a burning sensation in his right side.
A hiker heard his cries for help and called 911.
Grant County Chief Criminal Deputy John Turley says the victim
underwent emergency surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Moses
Lake.
The State Patrol is investigating whether the shooting was
intentional or accidental.
