Lineville assistant principal dies in accident

School administrators confirmed Monday that Gerry Elliott,
assistant principal of both Lineville High and Elementary schools
died Saturday after a hunting accident. Elliott, 39, was an
agricultural science teacher with Clay County schools for about 12
years before he was promoted, Superintendent Ben Griffin said.
Griffin said based on reports he’s heard, Elliott was hunting
Saturday morning when the accident happened. The cause of the
accident is still under investigation, according to the Clay County
Sheriff’s Office. School officials said grief counselors are on hand
today and Griffin said the schools will dismiss early Tuesday for
the funeral. Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mellow Valley
Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m.
today at the church. Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in
charge of arrangements.

An assistant principal at Lineville Elementary and High Schools
died in a hunting accident over the weekend, the Clay County coroner
said Monday. Gerald “Gerry” Elliot, 39, was out turkey hunting early
Saturday when he tried to climb a barbed-wire fence and slipped,
Coroner Dale Rush said.
