The Miner Online

NEWPORT – On Tuesday, May 13 at about 8:48 p.m. Pend Oreille County Sheriff deputies and medical personnel responded to a report of a man shot while hunting turkey in southern Pend Oreille County, off Highway 2 near milepost 315.

Upon arrival, deputies learned the victim, Robert Matson, age 27 from Spokane, had been shot in the neck and shoulder with a shotgun, accidentally by his 13-year-old nephew, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. Matson was conscious and stable when he was flown to a Spokane area hospital by helicopter.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
