Man stable after hunting accident

NEWPORT – On Tuesday, May 13 at about 8:48 p.m. Pend Oreille County
Sheriff deputies and medical personnel responded to a report of a man
shot while hunting turkey in southern Pend Oreille County, off Highway 2
near milepost 315.
Upon arrival, deputies learned the victim, Robert Matson, age 27 from
Spokane, had been shot in the neck and shoulder with a shotgun,
accidentally by his 13-year-old nephew, according to a press release
from the sheriff’s office. Matson was conscious and stable when he was
flown to a Spokane area hospital by helicopter.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
