AR-NYS: Young Woman Shot by Goose Hunters?
Teen allegedly shot by hunters
9/26/08
Ontario County deputies this morning are investigating a report that
a woman was shot in the neck by hunters off Route 488 in Phelps.
The woman is being treated at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic this
morning. The severity of her injuries was unclear.
"We've got cars going to the hospital and to Route 488 in Phelps to
attempt to locate some hunters," said Sheriff Phil Povero at about 8:45
a.m. "At this point it is believed she was hit with a ricochet from
hunters in the area."
He added, "If it's a ricochet, that generally would be indicative of
a rifle."
Today is the last day of goose-hunting season.
Deputies were summoned to the hospital at about 8:30 a.m. They were
trying to track down an officer from the state Department of
Environmental Conservation to help in the investigation.
Povero did not know the woman's identity or if she lived in the area.
She was being interviewed by a deputy this morning.
