Utah boy shots self with hunting rifle

September 27, 2009

DUTCH JOHN, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a Utah boy who shot himself with a hunting rifle is expected to survive.

The Daggett County sheriff's office says the 15-year-old boy was airlifted Saturday from Trial Creek in Ashley National Forest.

The boy's muzzleloader accidentally discharged as he stood up and tore a bullet through his abdomen. Deputies say the boy is in serious but stable condition and is expected to recover.
