Hunter shot in Shawano County

Authorities in Shawano County are investigating a hunting accident in which a hunter was shot in the upper right arm on Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release, the hunter was taken to Wausau Aspirus Hospital Center for treatment.

Authorities said the accident occurred early Saturday afternoon in the Town of Bartleme. Hunters were conducting a deer drive when one of the hunters mistook another member of the hunting party for a deer and fired his weapon.

Wardens for the state Department of Natural Resources and the Stockbridge-Munsee tribe, as well as the Shawano County Sheriff's Department, are investigating.

Sunday is the final day of the gun deer hunting season.
