Hunter shot in the face while hunting turkey
A Cordele man was mistaken for game and shot while hunting with a friend
Tuesday evening in Wilcox County. Jimmy Hudson Jr. of Crisp County was
wounded in the face, neck and chest with a 12 gauge shotgun at about 6:20
p.m. off Ga. 215 about four miles south of Rochelle, said Adam Newman, chief
deputy for the Wilcox County Sheriff's Office.
Hudson was hunting with Mark Boutwell of Wilcox County when the two men
got separated and Boutwell mistakenly fired at his friend, Newman said.
Boutwell called 911 and Hudson was airlifted from the scene to the Phoebe
Putnam hospital in Albany where he was critical but stable condition, he
said.
"I talked with them last night and he was very lucky and they thought he
was going to pull through it," Newman said.
A medical helicopter was able to transport the victim within about 30
minutes of the accident.
"We're very fortunate to have that service," Newman said.
