Union County authorities investigate after La Grande man shot dead by
hunting arrow
Union County sheriff's detectives are investigating after a 59-year-old
man was shot by a hunting arrow and died north of La Grande, the county
district attorney's office reported.
Paul Rudd of La Grande was hunting Sunday morning with 53-year-old Mark
Omann, also of La Grande, when they spotted a branch-antlered bull elk,
according to District Attorney Timothy Thompson.
About 7:45 a.m., Omann's compound bow discharged, sending a broadhead
arrow into the back of Rudd's head. Omann called 9-1-1 and medics responded,
but Rudd died.
