Hunter shoots self in foot
A Mariposa man is recovering after slipping off a rock Upcountry and
accidentally shooting himself in the foot.
The Amador County Sheriff's Office said Russell Kish told investigators
he was hunting deer near Squaw Ridge, east of Bear River Reservoir, when he
fell off of a large rock, simultaneously releasing the safety on his
Winchester 300 magnum rifle and discharging it into his right foot. A
sheriff's department spokesman said Kish walked for a short distance before
being carried by his hunting partners to an all-terrain vehicle, and on to a
California Highway Patrol helicopter and a waiting trauma unit at Sutter
Roseville Hospital.
