Teen Kills Dad In Apparent Hunting Accident
A Thibodaux man was shot and killed in an apparent hunting accident,
early Saturday.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff, Craig Webre said 37 year-old Jason Labat was
squirrell hunting with his 13 year-old son in a wooded area off Hwy 309,
near the Silverado bar.
The teen told deputies the gun he was using to hunt with accidentally
fired, shooting his father once in the back.
Deputies were dispatched to the area around 7:45 a.m. after the boy
called 9-11. The shooting victim died at the scene.
Police Social Services responded to the scene to provide assistance. The
investigation is ongoing, but detectives say preliminary indications are
that the incident was an accident. Agents with the Department of Wildlife
and Fisheries are also investigating the incident.
