Rigby Man Shot While Hunting - Man Mistaken For Deer
MADISON COUNTY, Idaho -- A man was shot while hunting in Madison County
on Friday, police said.
William Korby Hansen, 35, was shot around 7:17 p.m. by another hunter,
Mark J. Later, 57, police said.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said the shooter mistook Hansen for a
deer and shot him in the chest.
The shooting happened in a wooded area of Madison County near 5555 South
and 5700 West, police said.
Madison County responders said they had to reach Hansen by foot to rescue
him.
Rescuers took Hansen to a nearby field where he was airlifted to the
Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, police said.
When taken to the hospital Hansen was in critical condition and went into
surgery, police said.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said the investigation into the
shooting is continuing and charges are pending.
