Hunter rescued from Ka'u forest
Fire/rescue crews responded to an alarm shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday
(Oct 27) for a hiker in distress near the Alili Springs Trail in Ka'u.
A hunting party of four had been in a forested area with three men in the
group being able to hike out. A fourth member was unable to hike out due to
dehydration and difficult location. Rescue crews located the dehydrated 33
year-old man 3.5 miles in the thick forest. Crews stayed with the man
overnight until they were airlifted out by the Fire Department's Chopper One
at daybreak Thursday (Oct 28).
