Hunter dies at DeSoto Bend
A 32-year-old Omaha man died as the result of a hunting accident Sunday
at the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Blair.
Justin C. Wichman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a
statement from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Ben Scherer, chief deputy of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, said
Wichman was participating in an early deer season black powder hunting event
when he was felled by a gunshot wound. Scherer said no further information
will be released until after an autopsy has been conducted.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife,
Nebraska Game and Parks, and rescue personnel from Missouri Valley, Iowa,
also responded to the scene of the accident.
