Va. man fatally shot during hunting trip

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of an Alleghany County man during a hunting trip in the George Washington National Forest.

The Roanoke Times reports that 27-year-old Travis Scott Persinger was killed Saturday while hunting on Rich Patch Road in Low Moor.

Conservation officer Billy Angle with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says Persinger was shot by a hunting companion. The shooting is believed to have been accidental.

Angle says Persinger was among a group of 10 to 12 hunters..
