Hunter dies after tree stand crushes him
November 21, 2010
SCHOHARIE -- A Montgomery County man apparently was crushed to death by a
tree stand Saturday after it collapsed and fell on top of him while he was
hunting in Schoharie County, according to the Schoharie County Sheriff's
Office.
Robert Sawyer, 65, of Charleston was in the tree stand in a wooded area
in
the area of Barnerville Road when it caved in around 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
Another hunter called 911, and sheriff's deputies, fire personnel and state
Department of Environmental Conservation personnel responded. The sheriff's
office said it appears the tree stand crushed Sawyer after he fell to the
ground. The investigation is continuing and an autopsy is pending.
