Exton hunter found dead in West Vincent woods
January 12, 2011
WEST VINCENT — A 47-year-old Exton man who went hunting on a wooded farm
in the 1100 block of Birchrun Road Tuesday night was found dead in the woods
Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed.
Michael James Faust, had permission to hunt on the property and went out
deer hunting Tuesday night, according to West Vincent Township police. Not
having heard from or seen Faust since he went into the woods Tuesday night,
the landowner called police around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday and a search of the
property ensued.
Police said Faust’s body was found at the base of a tree in the dense
wooded area, with his tree stand not properly secured about 20 feet above
where his body was lying. Additionally, police said, Faust’s flintlock rifle
and backpack were hanging from hooks above the tree stand and he was not
wearing a safety harness. Police also said he did not have a cell phone in
his possession.
In addition to West Vincent Township police, the Pennsylvania Game
Commission, Chester County Detectives, the Chester County Coroner’s office
and the Ludwig’s Corner Fire Company responded to the scene Wednesday.
Police said Faust’s cause of death is under investigation, although it
appears to be accidental in nature. An autopsy has been scheduled.
