Five rescued after boat sinks during hunting trip
2/07/11
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) _ A hunting trip for five men in the Lowndes
County ended with them being rescued over the weekend.
Columbus Fire Department officials tell WTVA.com they received a call
around 10 p.m. Saturday night of a boat sinking in the Tenn-Tom Waterway.
The dive team and a rescue team from Lowndes County District Three
Volunteer Fire Department searched the river and found the men near Arkansas
Landing.
Authorities say the air temperature was around 29 degrees at the time,
and four of the men were taken to the hospital for treatment of hypothermia.
The men told their rescuers they were beaver hunting, when their boat hit
a stump and sank.
