18-Year-Old Shot While Hunting In Copiah County Investigators Say Shooting Was Accidental

February 16, 2011

COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. -- The Copiah County Sheriff's Department is investigating what officials said was an accidental shooting.

Nick Nations, 18, of Wesson, was shot at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday while he and a friend were hunting west of Interstate 55 near Silverado Road in Hazlehurst, investigators said.

The Sheriff's Department said Nations' friend tripped over a limb and his weapon discharged, striking Nations in the shoulder and side.

Nations was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was listed in critical condition on Wednesday.
