SLATE HILL — An accidental shooting Thursday resulted in criminal
charges for one teen and bullet wounds for another.
State police said that four 15- and 16-year-old boys were hunting
woodchucks at about 3 p.m. near a pond.
One of the four boys accidentally discharged a round from his
.17-caliber Mossberg rifle, which struck the water on the pond,
ricocheted up and wounded the victim in his chest and left arm. The
victim was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of
Wallkill and released.
The shooter was charged with reckless endangerment, a
misdemeanor, and released to his parents. The teens were old enough
to legally carry rifles, said Capt. Joseph Tripodo.
