DENMARK, N.Y. — Authorities say a northern New York man has been
charged with manslaughter after he accidentally shot another man
while deer hunting.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office says 55-year-old Arnold Camidge
of Carthage was with three other men around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the
town of Denmark when he was shot by a member of the hunting party,
19-year-old Travis Shampine of Carthage.
Camidge was taken by ambulance to Carthage Area Hospital, where
he was pronounced dead.
Shampine told deputies he fired at what he thought was a deer.
Sheriff Mike Talbot says Shampine has been charged with
manslaughter.
He's being held Monday morning in the county jail on $15,000 cash
bail.
Police don't know the name of his lawyer.
Deputies say the investigation is continuing.
