Man dies in fall from hunting stand off U.S. 301 in Jacksonville

October 27, 2011

By Jim Schoettler, Jacksonville.com

A man in his 60s is dead after falling out of a hunting stand off U.S. 301 and not being heard from for a couple of days, Jacksonville police said Thursday afternoon.

It happened about a mile south of Interstate 10 in some woods, but it wasn't clear how long the man had been there. Friends located his truck Thursday in their hunting area after becoming concerned and then found his body under his tree stand.

The Sheriff's Office, which received the initial call about 2:30 p.m., considers it an accident.
