November 7, 2011

From KFVS12.com

NEW MADRID, MO (KFVS) -

A man was shot through the leg while deer hunting Sunday.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens says two brothers were hunting in the New Madrid area when one of the brothers was shot through the leg with a gun.

Stevens says the man was air-lifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital and is in stable condition.

He says the bullet passed through the man's leg, but did not hit any major arteries or bones.

The sheriff's department ruled the shooting an accident and will not be seeking charges.

The case was turned over to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Firearms season for deer hunting in Missouri begins Nov. 12. The youth portion for firearms deer season began Nov. 5.
