JONESVILLE— State police say a Jonesville man was shot and killed
while hunting in the Catahoula Wildlife Refuge.
Fifty-two-year-old Boatner K. Smith, also of Jonesville, was
hunting about 5:50 Monday morning when he shot at something moving
in the brush. Smith’s bullet struck 63-year-old Rod Gordo, who was
killed instantly.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was asked to
investigate the shooting by the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s
Department. Smith is an officer at the Catahoula Correctional
Center, but is not a commissioned deputy.
Authorities have not arrested Smith, saying the investigation is
ongoing.
An autopsy will be performed by the Catahoula Parish Coroner’s
Office.
