Sullivan, NY -- A Kirkville man was in critical condition after
being shot by his son while hunting this morning in the town of
Sullivan, according to Madison County Sheriff's deputies.
Douglas Brownell Sr., 61, was shot in the upper leg around 10:10
a.m. off Bolivar Road, deputies said.
His son, Douglas Brownell Jr., 34, shot his rifle at what he
thought was a deer in a wooded area, striking his father, deputies
said. A third person performed first aid until emergency crews
arrived.
Brownell Sr. was rushed to Upstate University Hospital, in
Syracuse. The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending,
deputies said.
