LANSING, Iowa—
Iowa officials say a Lansing man has undergone surgery after
being shot in the head while deer hunting in the northeast corner of
Iowa.
An Iowa Department of Natural Resources news release says
36-year-old Michael Welch was hunting with 12 others Friday morning
when the shooting occurred.
The release says Welch was making a deer drive when he was hit in
the back of his head by a shotgun slug, sending him plummeting over
a 25-foot hillside.
Welch was airlifted to a hospital in Lacrosse, Wis., where he
underwent surgery.
The incident is still under investigation by the Iowa Department
of Natural Resources and the Allamakee County Sheriff's Department.
