FOSTER'S CROSSROADS - A Newell man was accidentally shot in the
face while turkey hunting on Thursday morning.
According to
the report from Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Wesley Brian
Bowen, 29, of 122 County Rd. 1901, is in an Atlanta area hospital
with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The accident
happened near 3150 County Rd. 7 at approximately 7:36 a.m.
Another hunter, Johnny Ray Bradley, 58, of 26511 Hwy. 431, Wedowee,
told conservation officer Harry Clark he was sitting down in the
woods calling turkeys when Bowen came from behind him also calling
turkeys. Apparently neither man knew the other was in the
woods.
After he was shot, Bowen called a friend to help him.
The friend called 911 and got Bowen to the roadside, where he was
picked by Southern Ambulance Transport, which took him to the
helicopter.
The shooting remains under investigation by
Randolph County Sheriff's Office and Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater
Fisheries Division. No criminal chargeshave been filed against
Bradley.
