A man was shot in the head early Monday in what was described to
authorities as an accident while hunting possums in south Bexar
County by the San Antonio River.
Sheriff's Detective Louis
Antu said deputies were called to the scene of the shooting about
4:11 a.m., but it took authorities about two hours to find Stephen
Edward Davis, 35, in the dark, rural area, even with the help
of a San Antonio police helicopter.
Authorities found the
wounded man and a companion in a brushy area as they flickered a
flashlight toward officers.
Davis was taken to San Antonio
Military Medical Center, where authorities said he was in critical
but stable condition Monday afternoon.
The companion was
taken in for questioning, Antu said.
