A hunting accident Saturday morning in Pottawatomie County has claimed the life of a juvenile, authorities said.

The accident was reported about 7:15 a.m. in the northeast part of the county.

The identity of the victim wasn’t being released as of Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Greg Riat said the injured youth was taken from the scene to a local hospital, where he died from a gunshot wound.

The case is being investigated jointly by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.

No foul play is suspected in the youth’s death, Riat said.

Additional details about the incident were to be released at a later time.
