An Elbert County woman told authorities that ”she very possibly
could have been shot by a deer hunter” early Sunday evening,
according to a news release issued by the Elbert County Sheriff’s
Department.
Sheriff Barry Haston said in the news release
that a call came in to the sheriff’s office at 7:01 p.m. Sunday
reporting that Meredith Watkins of 2607 Dempsey Brown Road had been
shot in the abdomen.
Watkins was airlifted her to Greenville
(S.C.) Memorial Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
Watkins was shot while she was outside attending to livestock.
Watkins told investigators that she believes she may have been
shot by a deer hunter.
