According to Avoyelles Sheriff Doug Anderson, at about 9 p.m.
Thursday night, November 15, 2012, his office received a call for
assistance regarding a hunter who was found dead earlier in the
evening on School Board Property near the Lake Ophelia N.W.R.
The Sheriff said that according to reports, a 40-year-old Marksville
man was hunting on the School Board property Thursday. Friends
of the man began a search and located him near the base of the deer
stand he was hunting with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigative evidence points to the victims’ death caused by a
fatal gunshot wound to the chest area when the weapon accidentally
discharged while he was descending from his deer stand earlier that
evening.
