A father accidentally shot his 16-year-old son Saturday afternoon
in Hillsdale during a hunting trip.
Preliminary
investigation showed that a father and his 16-year-old son from
Roeland Park were on a hunting trip in the area of Gardner and
Moonlight roads in Miami County. The accidental shooting occurred
when the father exited their vehicle and reached in to retrieve a
hunting rifle from behind the seat.
As he retrieved the
rifle, it discharged, causing a bullet to strike the son’s rifle
scope that was next to him. Bullet fragments from the round then
entered the son’s left hand and abdominal area, according to the
release.
