A 12-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father on Friday afternoon while the family was hunting prairie dogs, according to a report from the the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

According to the report, Francisco Pacheco-Lozania's wife was driving a truck with Pacheco and his son in the bed.

When the truck was stopped, the boy spotted a prairie dog and took aim. As he fired, his father stood up in front of him and was hit in the head by the bullet.  Pacheco died later the same day.
