HI: Injured Woman Airlifted, Hiking Partner Missing Upcountry

July 4, 2013

By Jeff King, MauiTVNews.com

A Fourth of July hunting trip turned into a rescue mission this afternoon, and has since turned into a search mission. A man is still missing tonight after being separated from his two hunting/hiking partners in the Makawao Forest Reserve.

At 1:15 p.m. today, Maui Fire Department Engine 5 fire fighters from Makawao, Rescue 10 personnel and Air-1 responded to a mountain rescue in the Makawao Forest Reserve. A local hunting party of two males and a female requested help after the female sustained an ankle injury, making her unable to continue.
