October 21, 2017

SHERWOOD, Ore. – A 26-year-old Hubbard man accidentally shot and killed himself while duck hunting in Sherwood Friday evening, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Creed V. Brattain IV was in the 19200 block of Southwest Cipole Road when shortly before 6 p.m. he tried to pull his shotgun toward himself and mistakenly fired a round, hitting himself in the underarm, deputies said.

Medics with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue tried to save Brattain’s life but were unable to do so. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brattain’s hunting partner stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The medical examiner “confirmed this to be a tragic accident,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.
