Safe Hunting?

Father Charged in Son's Hunting Accident

Nov 21, 2003

The father of a 10 year-old Baltimore County boy who died last month in a crossbow accident while hunting on the Eastern Shore has been charged with a misdemeanor.

The Department of Natural Resources police said they didn't want to upset the family any more than they are, but they had to charge 39 year-old Christopher Mattison because he broke the law.

Tyler was carrying a crossbow even though he had never partcipated in the state's hunter safety program and did not have a hunting license. The crossbow fired while Tyler was climbing down from a tree stand. Christopher Mattison is charged with one count of reckless endangerment.
