STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- An Associated Press report Tuesday indicated a Wisconsin hunter was fatally shot in what appears to have been an accident, authorities said.

Gerald Holverson, 44, of South Wayne, was shot at about 6:45 a.m. Saturday in southern Routt County, a mile west of Waller Reservoir, authorities said.

Routt County Coroner Dwight Murphy said an autopsy and toxicology tests will be done this week. He said the shooting is being investigated as an accident.

Investigators are interviewing hunters who were with Holverson and other witnesses, Sheriff John Warner said Monday. He declined to discuss the case further.
