Hunter Wounded in Shooting Mishap
November 28, 2003
Chester, NY
A 39-year-old Ulster County man was flown to Westchester
Medical Center in Valhalla after suffering a gunshot wound to the right
thigh yesterday morning, Town of Chester police said.
Curt Cabrera, 39, of Marlboro, suffered a wound from a
30-30 rifle shortly before 10 a.m. in the woods off Tetz Lane, between
Chester and Florida.
Police said Cabrera was bow hunting when he was shot by a
17-year-old boy from Warwick who was hunting with his father. Cabrera was
about 75 feet away from the teen when he was shot.
The shooting is being investigated by Chester town police
and state Environmental Conservation police. No charges had been filed as of
last night. Cabrera was in stable condition at Westchester after being flown
to the hospital by a Stat-Flight helicopter. Chester fire and ambulance
volunteers, state police and Mobile Life Support Services responded to the
call for help, in addition to the Chester and state conservation officers.
