Ohio Man Shot while Hunting Pheasants

Friday, October 31, 2003

Iowa City Press-Citizen

An Ohio man was taken to the hospital after one of his hunting partners inadvertently shot him in the back Wednesday in Washington County.

Ray Fisher, 54, of Englewood, received multiple gunshot wounds in the back and was taken to University Hospitals. He was treated and released.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said Fisher was in a group of four men when the shooting occurred. Officials said charges will not be filed.

Since pheasant season opened Saturday, there have been six reported hunting accidents in five Iowa counties. None have been fatal. This year's accidents already outpace the five reported during the entire 2002 pheasant season.
