Safe Hunting?
Hunters Hurt on Second Day of Hunting Season
3 December 2003
Two days into the hunting season and we have seen at least
two accidents in our area...one man is in critical condition. It's a
hunter's worse nightmare. A shot meant for a deer...ends up hitting another
hunter. That is what happened to 36-year-old Gerald Weaver of Lake City.
Around 10:30 this morning Weaver was hunting near Tannery Road in Girard
when he came between a buck and a teenager hunter. When the teenager took
his shot at the buck, he hit Weaver in the hip. Weaver lost a lot of blood
before being airlifted to Hamot Hospital. He remains in critical condition.
Another incident in Venango county has been reported
tonight. Apparently a hunter may have self-inflicted the wound. No name or
condition is available.
Also being reported tonight, a bullet went into a house on
Middle Road in Girard. Luckily no one was injured.
