St. Mary Hunting Accident Kills Man, 19

LAFAYETTE A St. Martin Parish man died Saturday when he was accidentally shot by a member of his hunting party, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said.

St. Mary Sheriff David Naquin said Monday that his office received a call at 4:23 p.m. Saturday about a hunting accident that occurred on Avoca Island. Naquin said that Jacob Gros, 19, of 1026 Tower Tank Road in Stephensville was hunting on Avoca Island when he was accidentally shot by one of the individuals in his group.

The name of the person who shot Gros was not released.

Gros was shot in the chest, Naquin said.

The St. Mary Parish Coroner's Office was contacted and is conducting an investigation.
